Magic Bullet for Alzheimer's?

Recently published research conducted by Martha Clare Morris, Sc.D. and her colleagues at the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging at Rush-Presbyterian-St.Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, IL supports the idea that consuming foods rich in Vitamin E may help prevent Alzheimer’s in certain people. This study and another conducted in the Netherlands seem to indicate that eating a diet rich in Vitamins E and C could provide some protection against the onset of Alzheimer’s.

However, despite these promising results, experts caution against loading up your body with too many Vitamin E supplements or other antioxidants in an attempt to stave off Alzheimer’s or dementia. Further study will be required for the medical establishment to determine whether or not taking large doses of these vitamins are a safe and effective way to ward off these conditions. Taking high doses of Vitamin E has been associated with bleeding and other health problems. Additionally, high doses of Vitamin E or some other antioxidant may cause dangerous interactions with medications that are already being taken. Although results are promising, always consult your health care provider before taking high doses of any supplement.
