With nearly 20 years experience in the pharmacy field, I have been a pharmacist, Pharmacy Director, author, speaker and consultant. I am a patient advocate and am passionate about educating consumers on health care issues, which is why I founded Empowered Medicine, LLC. At Empowered Medicine, our health professionals provide Health and Medication Coaching to clients remotely or in the home. Our health coaches are Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Registered Dietitians and Personal Trainers. We help people living with type 2 diabetes (and other conditions) transform their bodies and their lives, while helping them avoid complications like heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and amputation. Our health coaches partner with our clients 50/50. We will be there to help them set goals, devise a plan of attack, implement a strategy and enjoy sweet victory. We also love working with caregivers, helping them manage their loved one's health and medicine. While I worked homecare for 10 years, I encountered many people who could have used a service like this.

My interest in patient education has also lead me to pen the book 'Empowered Medicine: A Guide for Consumers'. It puts the official guidelines that doctors use in at the fingertips of the consumer. It translates the official guidelines for health conditions like high blood pressure and stroke into layman’s terms so consumers can learn which drug may be the most effective, have the least side effects and actually help them live longer (based on mortality data). Checklists and worksheets are provided so the reader can fill in their own health information and share it with their doctor. It’s available on Amazon now.

I’m excited to see the future of healthcare. I think to be truly successful, the clinician will need to holistically consider the whole patient rather than viewing them as the sum of their disease states.
